Privacy Policy

Kite is a family chores & screen-time app. A parent creates the account and manages one or more
child profiles. This policy explains exactly what we store and why. We keep it minimal on purpose.
Kite is designed for families. Children never create accounts, never enter payment
details, and never enter personal information. A parent sets everything up and stays in control.
What we collect
- Parent account: email address, a securely hashed password (we never store it in plain
text), and a display name.
- Child profile (created by the parent): a first name, gender, and a year of birth. The
year of birth is required and is used only to pick an age-appropriate experience and to apply the correct
children's-privacy rules for your country. We do not ask for the day or month. No email or login is created
for the child.
- Chores & rewards: tasks, points, streaks, wishes and rewards you set up.
- Screen-time management: on the child's device, Kite reads which app is currently in the
foreground so it can pause apps you chose to manage. We store the package names of the apps you manage and
the device's protection status (which permissions are granted and when it last checked in).
What we do NOT collect
- No location. Kite never requests or stores location in this version.
- No browsing history, no message or call content, no contacts, no photos, no microphone.
- Camera: used for one purpose only — scanning the pairing QR code shown on the parent's
screen. Nothing from the camera is recorded, uploaded or stored; the app only reads the code and closes the
camera. You can pair by typing the code instead and never grant camera access at all.
- No advertising identifiers. Kite contains no third-party ads or analytics trackers.
How we use your data
Only to run the service you asked for: manage chores and points, enforce the screen-time rules you set,
and show you your child's protection status. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who processes it
- Cloudflare — hosting and database (data stored encrypted at rest).
- Google Firebase — push notifications only.
These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Children's privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
Kite is a parent-controlled service. The parent provides and manages the limited child information above and
can review or delete it at any time. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Keeping your data & deleting it
You can permanently delete your entire family account — including every child profile and all history —
from inside the app: More → Data & privacy → Delete all data. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
Security
Passwords are stored only as salted PBKDF2 hashes. All traffic is encrypted in transit over HTTPS.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
